Message from the Headteacher

Last week we welcomed prospective Sixth Form students to our open evening on Thursday and we hope that by talking to current students and staff it has given everyone who attended a flavour of our outstanding Sixth Form. Thank you to everyone that helped out on the night.

Well done to Year 9 and 10 netball teams who played Carnforth High School last week.

This week we also had a very successful Year 11 Drama trip to see Blood Brothers and a Year 12 EPQ trip to HMP Lancaster Farms.

A number of students and parents have recently spoken to me about opportunities to go on trips and visits, both locally and internationally. This is something that we are currently developing and trying to create the right balance of educational and enrichment opportunities whilst also taking into account the high costs of some of these.

We will be sharing information about returning and new opportunities over the next few weeks and this will continue to be developed over the next year to try and establish a 2 year rolling programme.

Positive News

Swimming for Success
Yarah, who swims for Lancaster City Swimming and Water-polo Club has been recognised by Swim England. She has been selected to join the Lancashire County WPSA Swimming Development Programme – one of the top 48 swimmers in the North West Region for 200m IM! The programme will focus on the skills she will need to excel in the Counties Championships and hopefully following through to Regionals in the spring!

Congratulations to Jess, who has shown incredible initiative. After purchasing Shetland sheep – using her own money – Jess contacted Kate at a local Wool Shop to ask if she would be interested in purchasing her sheep’s fleeces. Her initiative is going from strength to strength.
“Jess is a natural with animals and has a confidence that belies her years, gained from helping her grandad show his prizewinning Longhorn cattle.” Kate

Year 11 Guidance

All Year 11 students will shortly be having individual meetings in school with a senior teacher to discuss their plans for the future, including A-Level subject choices.  With this in mind we have put together this guidance document which we hope will be helpful.

Japan Super Science Fair


After 3 flights and a 35 hour journey, our young scientists, accompanied by teaching staff, have safely reached their destination. They have met up with students from 20 other countries to attend the Science Fair in Japan. Head to our social media to find out about their whirlwind experience of competing and presenting at this prestigious event.

Maths Champions

Senior Maths Challenge: There were an impressive 68 participants from Years 10, 11, 12 and 13:
4 Gold Certificates, 14 Silver and 24 Bronze certificates were achieved.
Maths Olympiad for Girls:
Four of our students entered: Apala: Certificate of Participation, Emma: Merit, Niamh and Diveka: Distinction.

House of Commons Debate

Kelsey-Jo in Year 11 welcomed local MP Cat Smith on Friday for a discussion about the UK Youth Parliament campaign for Universal Free School Meals. Kelsey-Jo is a Deputy Member of the Youth Parliament and will be debating this issue at the House of Commons later this month.

Personal Development at LGGS

Our Personal Development curriculum aims to educate all children so that they grow up healthy, happy, safe and able to manage the challenges and opportunities of modern Britain.


Topics include: Careers Education, PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic), RSE (Relationships and Sex Education), SMSC (Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural).
