Message from the Headteacher

Thank you to everyone who helped out at our Year 13 Mock Interview evening. This is a incredibly important event to support students in getting ready for applying to their next stage of education, employment or training.

The feedback from students, staff and interviewers has been amazing and the evening really supports our students to be prepared for external interviews.

It was also lovely to welcome back students from the Japan Super Science Fair. You can read about the whole week on our website.

Well done to our Year 7, 8 and 9 Football teams who played Morecambe Bay Academy last week. Year 7 won 5-0, Year 8 drew 2-2 and Year 9 lost 5-2.

Positive News

Gymnastics
Congratulations to Amelia who recently competed at NW Classics claiming overall champion in Lancashire with Gold on bars and vault and silver on beam. This Saturday she competed at the Jim Moss English Championships and took the title of 2023 Silver Level Champion , with  gold on vault and bars!

Children in Need – Friday 17th November

Year 12 students will be holding a ‘Bake Sale’ in the Hall at lunchtime with fun activities including “Guess the number of jelly beans in a jar” and “Guess the name of the teddy” – please bring cash to take part! 
N.B. Years 7 to 11 should wear normal school uniform on Friday, however you can wear spotty themed accessories that show support of this event. Students and families can donate money to Children in Need via ParentPay.

Sixth Form students may wish to wear their old Year 11 school uniform for CIN, regardless of which school they attended, and the suggested donation if doing this is £2.  Thank you, The Charity Team 

Alumnae update – Forensic Anthropology

Isabelle left LGGS in 2021 and is now a third-year Human Scientist at St Hugh’s College, Oxford. You can listen to her interview with Professor Sue Black, who is one of the world-leading forensic anthropologists and anatomists.

Supporting our community and each other

Thanks also to Emily and Oriana, our LGGS History Society Presidents, who delivered Remembrance assemblies last week. The poignant assemblies focused on family and Lancaster community experiences of war.

Iona and Ana (above right) are part of a group of Year 12 students who, working as a team, are also delivering assemblies to students in Years 7 to 11. The assemblies this week are in support of Anti-Bullying Week and their message is to encourage our students to be upstanders rather than bystanders – to speak out if they see behaviour among their peers which is unkind.

Laura Bates visits LGGS

Author and feminist campaigner, Laura Bates, spoke to our Year 10, Year 11 and Sixth Form students.

The students were totally engrossed by her powerful discussion of gender bias in the media and her illuminating examples of everyday sexism that go under the radar.

Laura also discussed the research and writing process for her new Young Adult novel, Sisters of Sword and Shadow, which approaches Arthurian legend from a feminist perspective. Laura’s new book proved very popular with students, who queued after the talk to get copies signed and ask Laura questions.

Two of our Sixth Form students even got the chance to host an exclusive interview with Laura for The Chronicle!

Escape2Make

Escape2Make offer workshops and short courses hosted by local and national businesses, local artists and university students. Training includes graphic design, virtual reality painting, pottery, photography and more!


Besides building confidence, your new found skills can then be showcased at the Heritage Market Festival in December.

Online Safety Awareness 

The following information offers support and guidance to your children with a range of online safety guides.

Childnet is a UK-based charity which aims to give young people, families and schools the knowledge and skills they need to make the most out of their time online. Here are two short film clips to highlight the difficulties young people can face if they experience online sexual bullying or harassment.


The IWF is a not-for-profit organisation that works towards the global elimination of child sexual abuse images and videos online. We help to make the internet a safer place for children and adults across the world.

Tackling online sexual harassment (a film for parents and carers)
Make sure your home doesn’t have an open door to child sexual abusers (guidance)

You will also find ‘talking to your child about online child sexual abuse’ guide useful for helping to get the conversation started.
