Road Safety – Students who catch the bus

If you are a parent or carer of a student who catches the bus to school, please remind them of the importance of never crossing the road directly in front or behind of a stopped bus.

Passing traffic cannot see you if you are standing directly in front or behind the bus, and you will struggle to see oncoming vehicles – please move to a designated crossing or a part of the road where you can see and be seen clearly, or wait a couple of minutes until the bus moves on.

Year 7 Parents’ Evening

Year 7 Parents’ Evening will take place on Thursday 4th December. This is a great opportunity for you to meet your child’s teachers, discuss how they have settled in, review their progress so far, and talk about their goals for the year ahead.

School Photos

Earlier this term, Gillman & Soame visited the school to take portrait photographs. If you have not yet placed your order, please do so as soon as possible, particularly if you would like the photographs in time for Christmas. If you have misplaced your order details, please contact us and we will provide your child’s Admin ID. You can then contact Gillman & Soame directly at action@gillmanandsoame.co.uk or by calling 01869 328200, quoting your child’s Admin ID, class group, and the security password ‘lancastergirls632edp2025‘. Their team will be happy to assist you.

The Chronicle

This year’s edition of The Chronicle is nearly ready for publication. For those new to the school, The Chronicle is the LGGS school magazine, run by a team of Year 12 students as part of their enrichment programme. It is full of all the events of the last academic year, form photos, interviews and lots of other fun things. 

Once again we are printing on demand. To purchase a copy for £6.99, you can pre-pay on ParentPay. The pre-payment will close on Friday 28th November so to secure your copy for £6.99, please pay by this date. There will also be a chance to purchase a copy after this date for £7.99, however the number of copies will be limited.

Blood Wedding

We are delighted to announce our upcoming school production of Blood Wedding by Federico García Lorca, adapted by Ted Hughes. This powerful and poetic drama explores themes of love, fate, and tragedy, offering a rich cultural experience for our students and their families. Performances will take place from 28th to 31st January 2026 at 7:30 PM at The Dukes, Lancaster. Tickets are priced at £16, with concessions available at £14 for under 16s and OAPs. Autumn Concert

A huge congratulations to all our talented students for their outstanding performances at the Autumn Concert. The evening was filled with incredible music that showcased the dedication and creativity of everyone involved. We are so proud of the hard work that went into making this event such a success, and we want to thank all the friends and family who joined us to celebrate. It was truly a memorable occasion that highlighted the amazing talent within our school community.

Congratulations to Beth, Anna and Auguste on completing the Arkwright Scholarship

The Arkwright scholarship is a two-year scholarship programme providing mentoring, networking events and a financial reward to help young people pursue their interest in engineering.

The difficult application process involved a written application, an aptitude test and an interview, which helped our students to gain valuable experience for future university applications.

Another key part of the application process was talking about an engineering project they’d undertaken. Beth, Anna and Auguste talked about their engineering, Design and Technology Non-Exam Assessments as well as other projects they’d worked on independently, e.g. a project to monitor energy consumption in a household.

All three students managed to achieve this scholarship and are now being sponsored by Avanti West Coast, the RAF and a private sponsor.

Most 11-year-olds have a mobile phone, but do they know how to protect themselves from cyberbullying?

Future First Alumnae Network

We have a growing Alumnae network and, as a reminder, you are able to keep in touch with school, each other, and receive our termly Alumnae newsletter by signing up to Future First.

Our Alumnae also provide support to our current students through talks, mentoring or offering work experience. Further along your career path, this may be something that you wish to be involved with.

Mental Health Support for Young People

There is a wealth of useful information from Young Minds to help parents and carers understand more about their young person’s mental health. Find the right help for them or hear from other parents who’ve been there.
