Student News

Lancashire Great Debate

We are delighted to share that three of our Year 9 students won The Great Lancashire Debate 2025 at Preston County Hall.

Our students presented their ideas on improving youth groups in the local area to the Chair of Lancashire County Council, an expert judging panel, and six competing schools. They impressed the judges with their research, use of statistics, and personal insights, delivering a persuasive and thoughtful debate.

A special commendation was awarded to Eloise for her outstanding individual performance. We are incredibly proud of the team and look forward to them mentoring next year’s entrants for the 2026 competition.

Heartwarming Christmas Card Project for Care Home Residents

In an act of kindness, Year 12 student Gemma has inspired the entire school and the wider community to spread festive cheer to local care home residents by launching a Christmas card initiative, encouraging students to create cards for named residents.

120 students have taken part, crafting thoughtful messages and designs. Gemma is now carefully organising and checking each card to ensure everything is perfect before delivering them just in time for Christmas.

“I was inspired to start The Christmas Card Initiative after seeing first-hand how lonely some residents get without family. I know that once each and every resident gets a Christmas card, they will become just as happy as I am seeing so many people wanting to make a beautiful card. Thank you to all who have made a card and those who helped me make this happen. I hope that this will become another amazing LGGS tradition!”

This initiative not only brightens the holiday season for care home residents but also showcases the compassion and leadership among our students.

  • A secure, optional journal for recording incidents or concerns that can later be shared with a trusted person or agency.
