Sixth Form Open Evening

Thank you to everyone who attended our Sixth Form Open Evening last week. It was lovely to welcome so many of you and to share with you what makes our Sixth Form so special. Applications for 2026 entry to Year 12 are now open. You can apply online: Lancaster Girls’ Grammar School. Our Sixth Form Taster Day will be on Tuesday 20th January 2026.

LGGS Rose Award

We have recently launched the LGGS Rose Award, a school-wide initiative that celebrates and recognises students’ contributions to the school community beyond the classroom. The Rose Award encourages students to engage in a range of enriching activities including volunteering, leadership, participation in clubs, and representing the school or their house. It is designed to promote personal development, responsibility, and community spirit.

Take Your Child to Work Day

We have a varied careers programme than runs throughout school to support our students to think about their future and the world of work. As part of this, we encourage all students to gain experience outside of school including through our Year 12 work experience programme. In addition to this we are asking if you could support by taking your child to your workplace or arranging for them to visit another workplace during weekends, school training day or school holidays.

After School Detentions

Although rare, we have noticed an increasing number of requests to move detentions for a few students. Please see the attached letter that gives a reminder about our policy and expectation that the detention be attended on the date given: Detention Attendance Policy Letter

Year 7 MEGA Hub Day

On Thursday 6th November, 12 of our Year 7 students attended the MEGA Hub Day, an action-packed event designed to spark excitement about technology and future careers. Working in teams, they explored robotics, cybersecurity, and AI through hands-on challenges and digital puzzles. 

The day wasn’t just fun, it helped students build vital skills like teamwork, problem-solving, creativity, and digital literacy, while giving them a glimpse into the world of tech careers.

New York History and Culture Trip

After arriving and settling in the group kicked off their adventure with a scenic boat tour followed by visits to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty.

That evening, the group dined in the heart of Times Square, before visiting the Empire State Building to witness the city illuminated at night.

The next day was dedicated to learning and reflection during a Civil Rights and Social Justice tour of Harlem, where students explored New York’s role in key social movements and gained insight into current challenges faced by local communities.

The evening brought a fun change of pace with dinner at an American Diner, followed by a lively performance of Six on Broadway and some late-night shopping in Times Square.

On the final day, the group enjoyed a morning walk across the Brooklyn Bridge, taking in views of Manhattan and the East River. This was followed by a delicious food tour through Little Italy and Chinatown, sampling flavours from two of NYC’s most iconic neighbourhoods.

Japan Super Science Fair

Three of our Year 13 students, Liliana, Gwen and Katie, embarked on an incredible journey to Kyoto, Japan to present their research at the Japan Super Science Fair (JSSF). After three flights, crossing nine time zones and travelling nearly 9,000 miles, they arrived in Osaka ready to represent our school on the global stage! With schools from 20 different countries attending, our students were busy making international friends and learning about cultures from around the world.

Liliana, Gwen and Katie proudly presented their research on Hydrogen Polymers as a Plant Nutrient Ion Delivery System.
They answered insightful questions from students and teachers across the globe, showcasing their knowledge, confidence, and passion for science.

Their adventure continued with industrial visits, a trip to the breathtaking Inari Shrine and bamboo forests, and a fun-filled evening in Kyoto with their international friends.

We are incredibly proud of our students for representing our school with such enthusiasm, curiosity, and professionalism.

Autumn Concert

Our annual Autumn Concert takes place this Thursday 13th November and all tickets are now sold out.

Winter Holiday Activities and Food

Lancashire City Council offer support for families over the school holidays by providing free activities and food for children who are eligible for free school meals. For more information, please see the poster below.

Future First Alumnae Network

We have a growing Alumnae network and, as a reminder, you are able to keep in touch with school, each other, and receive our termly Alumnae newsletter by signing up to Future First.

Our Alumnae also provide support to our current students through talks, mentoring or offering work experience. Further along your career path, this may be something that you wish to be involved with.

Mental Health Support for Young People

There is a wealth of useful information from Young Minds to help parents and carers understand more about their young person’s mental health. Find the right help for them or hear from other parents who’ve been there.
