Weekly Update

16th October 2023

Message from the Headteacher

As the half-term draws to a close I would like to extend my gratitude to staff, students, parents and carers. It has been a busy half-term and I hope that you have enjoyed sharing or reading about the many events and activities which have taken place.

It has been a pleasure to welcome new and returning families to school and to see how quickly Year 7 and 12 students who are new to LGGS, have been welcomed and settled in to our school life.

Friday 13th was a very lucky day for LGGS. As part of Lancaster Music Festival we were fortunate to have hosted international pianist, Siqian Li, who performed for our students and their families. Accompanying Siqian were four LGGS students who also put on an amazing performance. Our Yamaha Grand Piano is rumoured to be the best in Lancaster and in Siqian’s own words, it can handle Schubert! Thank you to all those who attended.

I would like to wish you all a relaxing break and to remind you that we close after school on Friday and return to school on Monday 30th October 2023.

Positive News

Well done to Evelyn, Year 11 and Indigo, Year 12 who were featured soloists in the sold-out Lancaster Music Festival concert at Lancaster Priory on Friday 13th October. They sang the ‘For Every Child’ oratorio based on the UN convention on the rights of the child, alongside an orchestra, the Lancaster Millennium Choir and pupils from local primary schools. The concert was conducted by LGGS Ex Meritas Director of Music, Jeremy Truslove.

Well done to Isla, Year 8, who performed in Garstang Musical Production’s ‘Oliver!’. Isla played the role of one of Fagin’s gang. All five performances were sold out and received amazing reviews.

Daisy, Year 12, has been engaging visitors at Sizergh Castle with inspirational stories, curious facts, and practical information. As the youngest National Trust volunteer at Sizergh – acting as a tour guide – she has quickly become part of the team.

If you have any news or successes about your child which you would like us to share, please could you fill in this form and we will endeavour to include your news in our weekly update and newsletters.

Year 12 Work Experience Week: How can you help?

We are very excited to introduce our Work Experience Week for Year 12 students in 2024: this will take place in the week beginning 13th May 2024.

We are committed to all our students having the best possible opportunities in this week, not just those who already have a good network of contacts, so we are reaching out to the entire LGGS community to ask if you would be happy for one of our Year 12 students to spend a week in the place where you work.

Our students have a diverse range of interests and aspirations, and we are hoping to be able to match that with the placements we are able to offer them.

Please could you have a think about whether this is something you would be able to help out with, and in the next Weekly Update I will include a link for you to register your interest.

On behalf of our Year 12 students, we would like to thank you for considering this request: we intend that this programme will become a regular part of the Year 12 calendar for many years to come so that all LGGS students can have this enriching opportunity.
