Message from the Headteacher

Throughout this week, our students will participate in a range of career-focused events: On Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, Years 10-13 will have the opportunity to attend a series of talks, whilst on Wednesday, our Year 9 students will travel to Preston for a Careers Fair.

Tomorrow Dr Garcia will explore the ‘Ethics of Business and Marketing’ a talk aimed at our Business Studies students. On Wednesday and Thursday respectively, we will welcome back past students, Anouk and Abi. Anouk will be delivering a presentation on the topic of ‘Effective Study Skills for those who are Neurodivergent’ whilst Abi, who left in 2023 with four offers to study medicine, will be discussing the university application process and offering advice to those wishing to follow in her footsteps.

Next week, on Tuesday, 26th March, we are excited to host the Dance Gymnastics Showcase evening in the LGGS Main Hall. This event showcases the talents of our Physical Education students and is a much anticipated highlight of our school calendar. Tickets are now available online.

Positive News

Curling – World Championships and Nationals
Congratulations to Marianna in Year 11 who will be competing in the Curling Nationals during April. Marianna, along with her team, represented England in Finland during December at The World Championships. The team smashed their team’s target and you can find out more about Marianna’s experience of the competition in our end of term newsletter.

District Netball Championship
Congratulations to LGGS Year 10 Netball Team who have been crowned District Netball Champions 2024.
There was some fabulous teamwork throughout the tournament and the team showed tenacity.

A C Grayling, author and philosopher, visits LGGS

On Friday we had the absolute privilege to host world-renowned philosopher AC Grayling, who – to mark the start of Lancaster Litfest 2024 – delivered a talk on the ‘big challenges in life’ to Year 12 and 13 students. It was also wonderful to see a number of LGGS staff as part of the captivated audience.

I am sure that Professor Grayling’s words will stay with all those in attendance for a long time!

Dance Gymnastics Showcase

Join us on Tuesday 26th March to celebrate the talent of LGGS Physical Education students at LGGS Main Hall for the Dance and Gymnastics Showcase.

Time – 6:30pm
Tickets: £3 for adults and £1.50 for students and children

Visit to Lancaster University Psychology Department

Our Year 12 students were invited to spend the morning at Lancaster University’s Psychology Department last Thursday, to gain an insight into studying Psychology at a higher level and to extend what they had been learning in their A Level studies.

Philosophical Debate

Year 12 and 13 RS students were excited to join a conference day at Manchester last week with scholar, Dr Peter Vardy. The conference was attended by over 300 A level RS students who engaged in philosophical debate surrounding whether God can be truly good.
We were really proud that many of our students took the mic to share their views on whether an individual conference is a good moral guide.

National Citizenship Service (NCS)

Our team, which took part in the Boss It programme, held in Skern Lodge, Devon, have done incredibly well.
From kayaking and cooking outdoors to scrambling along traverse climbing walls and zip-lining!
Each challenge supports one, or more, of the ‘4 Cs’ of 21st century skills, Creativity, Collaboration, Communication and Critical thinking. These skills are deemed essential to help modern learners succeed in school and the workplace.

‘Long Covid Kingdom’

Tegan in Year 8 has contributed to the writing of ‘Long Covid Kingdom‘, a book which raises awareness of Long Covid in young people. This is an incredible achievement as Tegan was poorly when much of the book was written. 
The book was written in collaboration with a published author and published illustrator, who gave up their time to help the children achieve this. ‘Long Covid Kingdom’ was released last Friday , in time for International Long Covid Day. 

SEND Survey and Newsletter

In 2023, the SEND Partnership asked children, young people and their parent/ carers for their views on SEND support services in Lancashire. The survey is available and will remain open so you can share your views. You can read more about SEN provision in the SEND spring newsletter.
