Message from the Headteacher

Thank you to all Year 10 families who were able to attend parents’ evening last week. It was lovely to welcome you back into school and to hear the positive conversations taking place.

Thanks to the combined efforts of our school community, our Christmas Jumper Day event raised a staggering £838.50 which will be presented to Save the Children in the lead up to Christmas.

Meanwhile, the Sixth Form Quiz was a great success, was really well attended and the make ‘something out of paper’ round was an inspiration! Thank you to the Sixth Form Leadership Team and Sixth Form Council for your brilliant hard work raising money for UNICEF and the Leavers’ Ball fund.

Do not forget to get your trainers ready and join us on Friday for our annual 4K Christmas Fun (Elf) Run. The run is in support of St John’s Hospice and it is not too late to register.

Calendar of Kindness and Giving

Our LGGS Festive Countdown continues this week and you can keep up to date with all that is happening, and all the different charities we are supporting, by looking at the calendar below.

We will close for the holiday on Friday 22nd December 2023 at 1pm. 

Positive News

Congratulations to Lucy, who auditioned and was accepted as a member of the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain’s ‘The Children’s Band’. This will involve attending a residential course – led by some of the country’s leading brass band musicians – in the summer holidays 2024, culminating in a concert at Manchester University.

Well done to Shriya who participated in an online UK Parliamentary Week debate which was organised by UTHO, an NGO. The aim of the debate was to encourage and educate young children about the proceedings in UK Parliament.
Shriya played an active part in the discussion, was on the ruling party side and took a lead throughout the debate on the topic of “Should AI be regulated”.
The debate was attended by Elliott Colburn, MP from Sutton, Counsellor Hema and was supported by Lord Speaker, McFall of Alcluith and Sir Lindsey Hoyle, MP House of Commons.

Bonjour … from France

The French Exchange are having un bon temps à Lyon! So far our students have visited the market in Amberieu, walked through the Traboules and viewed les murs peints de Lyon. You can find out more about the exchange on our social media.

Work experience placements

Work Experience Week for Year 12 students is planned for the week beginning 13th May 2024.

We are committed to all our students having the best possible opportunities during Work Experience week, not just those who already have a good network of contacts, so we are reaching out to the entire LGGS community to ask if you would be happy for one of our Year 12 students to spend a week in the place where you work.

Our students have a diverse range of interests and aspirations, and we are hoping to be able to match that with the placements we are able to offer them.

Please complete this form if you are able to facilitate a placement for one or more of our students, and please pass this on to anyone in your wider network of friends or colleagues if you think that they may be able to help.

On behalf of our Year 12 students, we would like to thank you for considering this request: we intend that this programme will become a regular part of the Year 12 calendar for many years to come so that all LGGS students can have this enriching opportunity.

Holiday Activities and Food Programme

If you are eligible for benefits-related free school meals, you can get a place on the Holiday Activities and Food Programme (HAF)!
This takes place during the Christmas Holidays for 4 days (most likely taking place between the
2nd and 5th January). You can check out further details on the website for your district.

You will get a chance to:
Take part in activities, sports and games
Meet up with friends and make new ones
Plus have a tasty, healthy meal
