Weekly Update

30/09/2025

Message from the Headteacher

It has been a very busy but exciting week here in school. International Week is an important part of our calendar and gives our whole community a chance to celebrate and learn about the vibrant and diverse culture that makes up our school. It was lovely to see everyone from Year 7 to 13 taking part and enjoying the range of events throughout the week.

Next week we look forward to welcoming Year 7 families to our information evening on Thursday 9th October 2025. We will be sending a letter about this shortly.

As a reminder, we are closed to students on Friday due to a staff training day.

International week

On Monday we kicked off the week with our food fair students and staff were able to sample different dishes from the wide range of cultures and backgrounds that make up our amazing school. Thank you to all the parents, grandparents and carers that brought and served food.

On Tuesday we held a dance showcase. This was an opportunity for students to perform dances from their own or chosen culture. All the performances were fantastic! Well done to everyone who was involved!

On Wednesday Year 7 students tried Greek dancing which they thoroughly enjoyed, lead by two of our Sixth Form students. We also had an opportunity for pupils to have henna art applied by some very talented students.

Thursday saw a whole school fashion show where students could walk the catwalk in their cultural dress. There were some amazing walks and performances at the end.

Friday featured whole school karaoke where students sang songs in their first or chosen language.

It has been an amazing week celebrating the diversity which makes up LGGS, learning about other cultures and trying aspects of them.

School closed Friday 3rd October

Reminder: School will be closed this Friday (3rd October 2025) for a staff training day.

Year 7 One to One devices

Last week our Year 7 students received their laptops for use at home and in lessons.

Sixth Form

Year 11 students are now thinking about their next steps after GCSEs, and we have recently been talking with them about making informed choices. Last week they had an assembly from Ms Dobson, Head of Sixth Form and our Head Girl and Deputy Head Girl, to help them to understand more about what LGGS Sixth Form offers. Mae and Nicole talked about the benefits of being leaders in a school-based Sixth Form and of being somewhere where you are already known and valued, but where you will also meet lots of new people – making memories and friendships that will last a lifetime.

During October and into early November, every Year 11 student will have an individual meeting with Mr Beard or Ms Dobson to discuss their next steps and their A-level subject choices if that is the path they wish to follow. We have shared this guidance on choosing A-levels with the Year 11 students and felt that you would find this useful to look at as well.

Our Sixth Form Open Evening is on Thursday 6th November between 5:30pm and 7:30pm, with talks from the Head of Sixth Form at 5:45pm, 6:15pm and 6:45pm in the Centenary Hall. We invite students in Years 10 and 11 and their families to come along to find out more about what our Sixth Form has to offer; you will be able to talk with subject teachers and current Sixth Form students, who will give you valuable insight into what life at LGGS Sixth Form is really like.

Sparx Science Homework

You may already know that your child is being set Sparx Science as homework this year. This homework is set every Thursday morning and is due by 9pm the following Wednesday. Most students have taken to this well, but we have had some minor issues where students have submitted after the 9pm deadline – this will be classed as late and will incur a behaviour point. We do not wish to encourage students working late into the evening. Please encourage your child to leave sufficient time to complete this homework ahead of schedule to avoid this.
