Elinor Greaves PLACED Academy Architecture Summer School

During the summer holidays, I took part in the PLACED Academy Architecture Summer School at Manchester School of Architecture. During the four days we were learning about the different types of roles in architecture and the different types of skills that we would need to become architects. Each day we would also get new professionals who would be there to tell us about what they do and their journey on how they got into architecture. Each group had different briefs to help design the second phase of the viaduct at Deansgate-Castlefield. Our groups brief was community and social spaces, this meant that we had to draw a 2D floor plan and create models to our groups own scale. After the two days of designing and building, we had to pitch our ideas to the other groups and professionals, as well as someone from the National Trust, so they could have young people’s ideas put forward into phase two of the viaduct. Our group won most creative response to the brief.  I have attached some images on what me and my group managed to do during the four days. There are also lessons after school on a Tuesday and on a Saturday every month, which go towards graduation at the end of the year. Hopefully, this has informed you a bit more and that more people will sign up next year!

Miranda Hartley, Farrah Hawkins, Eva McDade and Molly Carruthers in Year 13 have helped to achieve the Eco School Green Flag Award 2025

This academic year, pupils have led the way in promoting sustainability and raising environmental awareness among their school community, including peers, staff members, and the wider local community. Their exceptional efforts have been recognised with the prestigious, internationally recognised Eco-Schools Green Flag accreditation.

The Eco-Schools programme, established in 1994, has been inspiring young environmentalists for over 30 years. It has grown into a global movement, with Eco-Schools Green Flag accreditation awarded to schools in more than 100 countries. In England alone, the programme reaches over 1 million young people each year, empowering them to make a positive impact on our planet.

Parking around school

Please can we ask you are considerate of others and our neighbours when dropping off or picking up from school. We do experience heavy traffic at the start and end of the school day and need to ensure that our students are safe when crossing the road.

Please help us by parking in designated parking bays, using the local pay and display car parks or dropping off/picking up away from the school.

We do have regular visits from traffic wardens who do issue parking tickets for those stopping at the junction, on the zig zag and double yellow lines.
