Curriculum survey

As you may be aware the government has published a major curriculum review of Education and the National curriculum.  We are also reviewing our current curriculum and would appreciate you taking the time to fill in the form below.  We are interested to hear from as many families as possible.

Please can you complete the form below by Monday 10th November.

Children in Need: Friday 14th November

We will be supporting this year’s Children in Need event next Friday, when everyone is invited to get involved and donate to help make a difference to the lives of children and young people in communities across the UK

We are looking forward to a Talent Show at lunchtime in the Main Hall, with acts from students across the year groups, and it will also be a non-uniform day.

Students in all year groups may wear their own clothes, or dress up for the day, and we invite families to make a donation through ParentPay, with a suggestion of £2 although the exact amount donated is up to you.

Sixth Form students may wish to wear their old school uniform, from when they were in Year 11 (regardless of which school they attended) although this is very much optional.

Thank you in advance for your generosity.

Reminder: Early School Closure on Thursday 6th November

This Thursday 6th November, school will be holding the Sixth Form Open Evening. To prepare for the evening, we have made the decision to close school to pupils at 2.30pm – pupils will be free to leave school after Period 4. Please make arrangements to collect your child at the earlier time, or discuss with them the alternative arrangements for them getting home.

Please note that the 567 bus to Hambleton will depart from school at the usual time as unfortunately Lancashire County Council are unable to realign it to fit the early closure. If you would like your child to remain in school while they wait for the bus, please email lggs@lggs.lancs.sch.uk

Student News

On Wednesday 29th, Jaxx in Year 8 gave a talk on bees at Knott End library for a FOKEL (Friends of Knott End Library) event. It went extremely well and many attendees fed back to say how informative it was, how they couldn’t believe she was only 12 and had never given a lecture before. Jaxx started a charity called FTBC (‘Free The Bees Corporation’, at 10 years old) and has raised a fair bit of money for the Bumblebee Conservation Trust. You can find out a bit more about what her and her friend Fern have been up to in the group’s web page: FTBC: Bee The Future!

Autumn Concert

Our annual Autumn Concert is taking place on Thursday 13th November and is being held in school. You can get your tickets here.

What’s On, At a Glance – There are activities and events from the beginning of November through to just before Christmas in the Lancaster district, offered by the Lancashire County Council’s Children and Family Wellbeing Service.

Future First Alumnae Network

We have a growing Alumnae network and, as a reminder, you are able to keep in touch with school, each other, and receive our termly Alumnae newsletter by signing up to Future First.

Our Alumnae also provide support to our current students through talks, mentoring or offering work experience. Further along your career path, this may be something that you wish to be involved with.

Mental Health Support for Young People

There is a wealth of useful information from Young Minds to help parents and carers understand more about their young person’s mental health. Find the right help for them or hear from other parents who’ve been there.

You will find advice on:
