The messages have been pouring in to school from all those who attended the incredible LGGS production of Chicago. The show was so polished and professional, it was a pleasure to watch and we we shall wait in anticipation until the 2025 production. Well done everyone.

Friday was an important day for Year 6 families across the country as they found out about their application for secondary school places (myself included!). I wrote to all those who were successful in gaining a place at LGGS and I am sure you will join me in welcoming them shortly.
Our French Exchange visitors have joined us at LGGS this week, a slight overlap with the Spanish Exchange students, and I hope they too will feel welcomed by the whole school community.
We are also now able to reveal our new school video which will be added to our new look website. I will share the sixth form video next week.
North West Gymnastic Schools Preliminaries Huge congratulations to our LGGS gymnasts who competed in the North West Schools Prelims. The U19 won their competition, and the U14 Sixer and U19 Pair finished as runners up. They all now progress to the National Schools Gymnastics Finals where they will defend their 2023 title. U19 Sixer – Champions: Amelia Slaney, Thais Alonso-Green, Olivia Aryton , Sarah Rooney, Ellen Brown and Imogen Tao U19 Pair – Runners Up: Amelia Slaney and Thais Alonso-Green U14 Sixer – Runners up: Arabel Alonso-Green, Violet Quick, Nayo Basur, Isabelle Benedetto, Olivia Nowak and Amelia Love
Students answered 75 questions over 8 rounds, putting their knowledge of classic and contemporary books, authors and genres to the test. Schools across our region participated in the live quiz and lots of fun was had by all. Our LGGS teams won the ‘Participation Prize’ for best team spirit! Overall, our Year 8 team came joint fifth with the Year 7 team close behind. This was a fantastic achievement – well done to our eight reading champions!

We saw so much talent and potential that we have appointed a larger team than usual, and we are sure that they will all bring so much to enrich our school community, which they talked about with such enthusiasm and warmth at interview.

World Book Day on Thursday
In the run up to World Book Day on Thursday, our Reading Ambassadors confidently delivered an Assembly to Year 7 this morning, on the topic of ‘Dystopian Fiction in Literature’. We shall look forward to a memorable week, packed full of activities with something to tempt each year group – all with a shared aim of engaging our students in reading.
We also welcomed author, Melissa Welliver, who spoke to Year 8 and 9 about her successful books and also about the writing process.
Years 7, 8 and 9 have now received their World Book Day activity booklets. You can browse through the booklet and see the full range of activities and competitions planned for the coming week. World Book Day tokens have also been distributed by Form Tutors to students and the tokens can be redeemed at participating retailers.
Prayer and Reflection Room
We have repurposed the former languages office, next to Room 27, as a prayer and reflection room. As of this week the room will be available for use by students of all faiths and none. We shall also be working with the EDIT team to further develop the room in the near future. This offers our students a space of peace and tranquillity to enjoy and I am sure it will be well used with Lent, Mahashivratri and the start of Ramadan all taking place this and next month.
From 11th March, we have also set aside Room 21 for those who are fasting during Ramadan.
YouTube Access
Following feedback from parents/carers, teachers and students we are now able to allow students access to YouTube on school managed devices, which includes 1:1 devices. This shall allow students access to a wealth of quality learning materials. YouTube Safe Search feature blocks inappropriate search results and our school filtering system will report to us where this happens. Parents/ carers need to be aware that Safe Search will be in place when the 1:1 devices are used at home, however no system can be 100% risk free and as such we recommend monitoring what your child is accessing online.
Careers
Thank you to Lancaster University’s Linguistics Department, who came in to school on Friday to speak to Year 11 students about their specialist subject.
Lancaster University Lecture Series continues tomorrow, when we shall be joined by Professor Kamilla Elliot from the University’s English Literature and Creative Writing department. Kamilla will deliver a talk to our students on the topic of ‘Jekyll, Hyde and Jack the Ripper’.
Lancashire County Council School Bus Service Survey
Does your child currently use a school bus service contracted by Lancashire County Council? If so please could you spare a few minutes to undertake a short survey to help the council understand what you may want from the service in the future. The survey is open until 28th March 2024 and the results will help the county council better understand service user needs and wants.
