Message from the Headteacher
It’s been another busy week in school, and the pace doesn’t seem to be slowing. With various trips going out over the past couple of weeks, it’s been lovely to see students embracing those opportunities and representing the school so well.
A special mention has to go to our Year 10s, who completed their work experience recently. The feedback from employers has been genuinely impressive; they have shown maturity, enthusiasm, and a real willingness to get stuck in. They should be very proud of themselves.
Meanwhile, as we enter the final week of formal exams for our Year 11 and Year 13s, I want to congratulate them on all of the hard work they have put in over the last few months. Their determination, resilience, and commitment to their studies have been evident throughout, and they should feel incredibly proud of everything they have achieved so far. I hope you all have a wonderful Summer break, and look forward to seeing you and celebrating your achievements on results day.
Thank you, as always, for your ongoing support. It makes a real difference as we move through this busy stretch of the year.
Warm wishes,
Mr C Beard

Student News

A huge congratulations to Year 11 student, Valentina, who represented LGGS at The Big Bang UK Young Scientists & Engineers Competition in Birmingham recently.
Of over 800 initial entries, Valentina’s project was selected into the elite top 100 national finalists.
Following a rigorous day of live presentations to expert industry judges, Valentina was officially awarded National Runner-Up for the Intermediate Technology Award for her outstanding project titles “Python Quantum Logic Visualiser Program”.
This award places her in the top 1% of young tech innovators in the country, and her project drew significant praise from the judging panel and sponsors for its advanced technological execution.
What an outstanding achievement! Congratulations and well done, Valentina!
We are delighted to share that Robyn, a Year 11 student, has qualified for the National Swimming Events in July.
Robyn will be competing in British Nationals as part of the 4×100 Medley Relay Team, and also at English Nationals in the 50m and 100m Freestyle events.
You may remember earlier this year, Robyn secured Bronze in the 50m Freestyle in the England North West Regional Championships, and alongside her teammates, including Yarah in Year 9, raced against some of the biggest clubs in the region in the 4 x 100m Medley Relay.
We are incredibly proud of you, Robyn!

We are also pleased to share that Molly, a Year 10 student, was involved in the Italian Festival held in Lancaster City Centre at the end of May.
Molly had the opportunity to perform at the event, singing O Mio Babbino and songs from Phantom of the Opera, in front of a large audience, and she did incredibly well. Her confidence and enthusiasm really shone through, and it was wonderful to see her representing herself and the school community so positively.
You can read more about the event highlights, including Molly’s performance, at the link below.

We are expecting a very busy evening!
We are looking for Year 7 and 8 students who would be willing to help on the evening by being tour guides, and Year 9 students who would be willing to help in departments. If your child is able to help on the evening, please complete the relevant form below:

Open Evening Year 9 Helpers, 25th June 2026 – Fill in form
Students helping will need to be back in school by 4.45 pm until the finish at 7.30pm. If possible, students should return home from 2.30pm until 4.45pm. If it is not possible to return home, an area of the school will be open for students to use between the end of school and the start of the Open Evening. Some students may prefer to go into town, and they can bring food back to eat in school. Please discuss with your child what you would like them to do.
The evening is due to finish around 7.30 pm, so please arrange to collect your child after that time or make arrangements about travelling home.
Thank you very much in advance for supporting what will undoubtably be a great evening!

WhatsApp for Under 13s
With the exception of YouTube, WhatsApp has always been one of the most popular messaging apps, including for children under 13. This has always been a concern for a lot of different reasons, but it seems that Meta have now created a parent-managed service.
Similar to other parent-managed accounts, a parent will pair their device/account to the child’s device/account which then gives a lot of flexibility such as:
- No ‘view once’ messages.
- No location sharing.
- Messages and group invites from unknown contacts sent to the parent for approval.
- Parent notifications, such as new contact added.

- what misogyny is

Supporting Students through the Exam Period
Young Minds have also included a specific section on the exam period, which can be found here: Exam time
Exam season can be a stressful time for many students, with pressure to perform potentially taking a toll on their wellbeing. While encouraging students to work hard remains important, it’s equally vital that they feel supported throughout the process.
The NHS has put together a helpful guide for parents on supporting their children during exams, with practical advice on building healthy routines, spotting signs of stress and creating a positive environment at home.
