Weekly Update

8th January 2024

Message from the Headteacher

I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a happy and healthy New Year and hope you are feeling rested and recharged ready for the Spring Term.

The mock exam period is upon us which is an excellent opportunity for our students to experience an exam environment and prepare for their summer exams. It also allows students to test their knowledge and see what areas they need to develop. I am sure as parents and carers you will be doing your utmost to support our Year 13 and Year 11 students, as will our teaching staff. Should you need to discuss anything, our staff are always at hand to offer advice.

This week we welcome two new members of staff to LGGS. Mr G Davies-Craine, joins us as Head of Geography and Mr C Lappin, as English Teacher (maternity cover). We hope you get a chance to meet them soon.

We shall have more news to share with you next week but, in the meantime, you can read some positive news about our Year 12 students.

Positive News

Sixteen of our Year 12 students volunteered at Ashton Manor Care home over Christmas. They chatted with residents and planned a range of activities from making Christmas cards and hosting Christmas quizzes to a tortoise therapy session!
It was a fantastic experience for Year 12, many who are hoping to continue with careers in caring roles.

A big well done for embracing the challenges and relishing the opportunities of the volunteering experience.

‘They were so lovely and enthusiastic and really good with the residents who really enjoyed having them here. Please give them all a big thank you from us’ Michelle Gallaher & Amber Felton, Ashton Manor Care Home staff

Volunteering

If you are able to offer a placement, our Work Experience Week for Year 12 students is planned for the week beginning 13th May 2024.

Our students have a diverse range of interests and aspirations, and we are hoping to be able to match that with the placements we are able to offer them.

Please complete this form if you are able to facilitate a placement for one or more of our students, and please pass this on to anyone in your wider network of friends or colleagues if you think that they may be able to help.

On behalf of our Year 12 students, we would like to thank you for considering this request: we intend that this programme will become a regular part of the Year 12 calendar for many years to come so that all LGGS students can have this enriching opportunity.
