Weekly Update

Message from the Headteacher

As we complete the penultimate week of the academic year, I would like to take a moment to thank our entire school community for what has been another incredibly successful and enjoyable week.

Firstly, our recent Open Evening was a tremendous success. It was wonderful to see so many prospective families visiting our school and experiencing the enthusiasm, talent and pride that our students demonstrate every day. Thank you to all students who contributed to making the evening such a positive showcase of our school. The feedback received has been overwhelmingly positive, and you should all be proud of the part you played.

Today, we are holding one of the most anticipated events in our school calendar – our Music Festival. This long-awaited celebration of creativity and performance is always a highlight of the year, providing an opportunity for our talented musicians and performers to showcase their hard work and dedication. We wish all students involved the very best and look forward to what promises to be a fantastic event enjoyed by students, staff and families alike.

We are also looking forward to our upcoming reward trips, which provide a well-deserved opportunity to celebrate students’ hard work, commitment and achievements throughout the year. We hope these experiences will be both enjoyable and memorable for all involved.

As we approach the final days of term, it is important that we maintain our full focus on learning, attendance and high standards. There is still much to achieve before the summer break, and we encourage all students to continue giving their very best effort right through to the end of the academic year.

Finally, a reminder that school will close at 1:00pm on Friday 17th July for the summer holidays.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support. Let us work together to ensure that the final days of the year are productive, positive and rewarding for all.

Warm wishes,
Mr C Beard

A huge well done to Bryony in Year 7 who has qualified for the Swiss National Swimming Championship which is due to take place in Basel in July.

Bryony will swim the 200m Butterfly and the 200m Individual Medley.

She also trains with local team, the Carnforth Otters!

A huge congratulations on this amazing achievement, and good luck for the Championship, Bryony!

We are delighted to share that Lucy and Molly, both Year 10 students, are running a marathon in aid of Dementia UK.

Parent Survey

We have moved to a new survey provider and would be keen to get your views on LGGS through this short survey. We will be following up with other surveys next year.

Pre-Loved Uniform

We are proud to run our Pre-Loved Uniform shop, which allows families to access LGGS uniform at a heavily discounted rate.

Items are provided on a donation basis and we are currently running low on some items. If your daughter has outgrown any uniform that is still in good condition, please do consider donating it to our shop.

Donating clothing plays an important part in sustaining our planet’s natural resources; as a Green Flag Eco-School, looking after the environment is important to us.

Your daughter can drop in any donations to the Medical Room at Student Services in school, or you can bring donations in to Main Reception during school hours if you would be dropping it off yourself.

If you are in need of any uniform, please email recycleduniform@lggs.lancs.sch.uk, stating the items and sizes you need, and a member of our team will get back to you.

LGGS One-to-One Devices: Student Leavers

If your daughter makes use of an LGGS-managed laptop and is leaving LGGS this summer, please contact us to make arrangements for the device.

Depending what year group your daughter is in, you may already own the device and just need us to clear the settings, or you may be eligible to take ownership of the device, or just wish to return it to us – if you are unsure please contact the Finance Team on finance@lggs.lancs.sch.uk.

Thank you for your support.

Filtering and Monitoring

Our internet filtering is provided by the London Grid for Learning (LGfL) through their SchoolProtect (in school) and HomeProtect (at home) systems. Both are powered by a solution called Netsweeper, a widely used content filtering system in many schools across Lancashire.

How our filtering works

At home: When students use their school device, HomeProtect ensures that harmful or inappropriate websites remain blocked and logged, even when not connected to school Wi-Fi.

Please note that personal devices (e.g. phones or family tablets) are not filtered by us.

How our monitoring works: We use a system called Senso to monitor the activity of students and staff on school devices:

  • Senso records what is typed, and which applications are used, and uses AI and machine learning to flag potential safeguarding concerns.
  • If something is flagged (for instance, if a student appears to be searching for resources on self-harm or pregnancy) then a screenshot is captured and sent to a secure online portal for analysis.
  • This portal is accessible to the school’s safeguarding lead, as well as a dedicated safeguarding team at Senso. If there is potential danger to life, the team will telephone the school and, in some cases, may also contact the police.
  • Supervise use: Ask your daughter to show you what she has been working on or using her device for.
  • Use parental controls: HomeProtect’s filtering can coexist with parental controls from your internet service provider – you can find guidance on setting these up at the UK Safer Internet Centre here.
  • Talk regularly: Discuss safe and responsible use of technology, including social media and online behaviour.

Social Media Ban and Online Safety Measures

As we’re all probably aware by now, the UK government announced a social media ban for under 16’s, to come into force from Spring 2027.

Internet Matters have put a big article together exploring these questions and more which many parents will find useful.

A Practical Toolkit for Families

The Molly Rose Foundation has some great resources for parents including guides and other resources. One of these guides helps families understand who and what may be shaping a child’s online world and how these influences can affect mood, confidence and safety. To download this guide and check some of the other resources see the link below.

Mental Health Support for Young People

There is a wealth of useful information from Young Minds to help parents and carers understand more about their young person’s mental health. Find the right help for them or hear from other parents who’ve been there.

You will find advice on:

  • Looking after yourself as a parent/carer
  • Speaking to professionals
